Rapid Release Technique at
Main Street Wellness & Chiropractic
Here at Main Street Wellness & Chiropractic, we offer a wide range of natural treatment methods as part of our holistic or "whole body" approach to healing. Our chiropractors, Dr. Sullivan and Dr. Terry, understand that an injury or medical condition can affect the body in ways that take many forms, including chronic muscle tension, muscle spasms and accumulations of abnormal internal scar tissue. That's why we're proud to be the only chiropractic health and wellness center in the area currently offering Rapid Release Technique (RRT) to help our patients overcome these challenges.
Whenever your soft tissues sustain any kind of injury, part of the natural repair process involves the production of scar tissue to connect severed fibers and temporarily immobilize the area, which prevents the injury from getting worse before it has a chance to get better. This process occurs not only after major injuries such as torn muscles or damaged connective tissues, but also in response to the creation of "micro-tears," from everyday muscle exertion.
Unfortunately, the production of scar tissue can sometimes become excessive, creating fibrous bands or lumps called adhesions that bind neighboring tissues together. This keeps them from sliding across each other easily when in motion, causing chronic, sometimes debilitating pain and stiffness in the affected area. Adhesions can from practically anywhere, interfering with the movement of muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (a layer of connective tissue covering organs, nerves, muscles and other systems).
Fortunately, these adhesions can be broken up, freeing your soft tissues from pain and allowing them to regain their former freedom of movement -- and that's exactly what RRT was designed to do. Our chiropractor applies a special handheld instrument to the site of the internal scarring. This device generates extremely short-stroke (2.5 millimeter) vibrations at the remarkably high frequency of 165 vibrations per second. The tiny, painless yet powerful forces emitted against the scar tissue causes this already-brittle substance to break up.
Since internal scarring is such a common feature of so many musculoskeletal injuries and chronic pain conditions, Dr. Sullivan and Dr. Terry have found RRT to be highly useful at our health and wellness center. Our chiropractor may prescribe it for the treatment of such symptoms and conditions as:
Carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and other repetitive strain injuries
Nerve entrapment or impingement anywhere in the body
TMJ (temporomandibular disorder), neck pain or headaches
"Frozen shoulder," knee pain, ankle pain and other joint problems
Stiffness or reduced range of motion
Chronic muscle tightness and/or spasms
